Worship

Worship in our parish varies throughout the year. We have three different worship sites. From Columbus Day weekend through Memorial Day weekend, we worship in St. Mary’s Chapel on Kimball Road in Northeast Harbor on Sundays at 9 am.

After Memorial Day, we worship at St. Mary’s by-the-sea on Shore Road, through the first Sunday of October, at 8 am and 10 am. On some occasions in July and August, 10 am worship features Morning Prayer in place of Holy Eucharist. Music is provided by local and visiting organists and guest choir directors. We have an active choir of year-round and seasonal folk that provides wonderful music for the summer Sundays.

In addition, St. Jude’s Church in Seal Harbor holds worship services during July and August at 10 am. Holy Eucharist is provided on the 1st and 3rd Sundays and Morning Prayer on 2nd and 4th Sundays, unless a baptism is scheduled. St. Jude’s is served by The Rev. William “Bill” Hague.

We worship in the Episcopal Church tradition, using the 1979 Book of Common Prayer and the 1982 Hymnal, as well as newer authorized texts and hymns. Worship on Sunday is primarily Holy Eucharist, which includes communion. Scripture readings follow the Revised Common Lectionary which is used by many Christian denominations.

Worship involves participation on the part of many people. We train and schedule acolytes, lectors (readers), chalice bearers, greeters, and members of the altar guild.

Sermons from preceding Sundays and special occasions are occasionally posted.

A Worship Committee meets a few times during the year to assist the Rector in coordinating and planning worship.
